There is a big ol' myth about business that as long as you have a slew of customers coming in, then you'll be rollin' in the dough. Well, yes, traffic helps, but if it isn't targeted to match your business product, you are wasting money, time, and loads of energy. Would you rather have a million people coming into your store and only one person buy from you, or 10,000 people entering your store and 1,000 leaving as buying customers? Honestly, it is better to have LESS traffic that is concentrated to be a good match for your business, than massive 'low-quality' traffic (aka, customers who don't want what you got!). To know how to target customers for your business, you need to get inside the mind of your customer. You want your product to assist them in reaching their goals and align with their dreams. 3. What scares them? What keeps them awake at night? OK, we aren't talking about werewolves. Every potential customer has real, valid fears. If you can understand their fears and create a product with a marketing campaign to address them, your business will have a powerful advantage. 4. What interests them? Where do they hang out? Now that you know more about how you can meet your customers' needs, you need to know where to find them. By understanding their interests, the websites they are on, the books they read, you can target your marketing campaign to areas that are brimming with buyers. 5. In some cases I welcome it but in others I despise it. It seems we have become a race of robots nothing but a number attached to us way beyond a SS number. As a veteran trucker for 15 plus years its important to adapt to technology just to help us do our job more efficiently but at the same time we are always being watched through GPS tracking bolted right to the truck so they know your every move if your involved with most any large company. They know how you drive, where you drive, where you stop, how fast you go. This to me is bit much as far as watching me. There are times just as in nature where you push the envelope to make up time lost or you go easy because you’re ahead of schedule. I'm guessing soon they will have cameras installed to watch me sleep, health monitors so they know when to fire me if I get to looking like an insurance claim so they can avoid their insurance premiums increasing, or my behavior when some road rage idiot confronts me on the highway. When does it become an invasion of my human life ya know? Today I had to renew our auto tags and the girl tells me that since I have a handicap tags on both vehicles that I also get at no charge the plastic handicap placards at no extra charge. I don't really need them as I guess if Mom were to ride with someone else she could let them have use of them. Well the handicap tags were due to my Mom as she was 80 last year and was in a wheel chair from broken hips injury's when I would take her to the doctors and such. It gave us cart blanch as far as parking goes near a front door or entrance. Well she passed away last march and since they will want an extra $190 to re-register the vehicles into my name and I really can't afford that as of yet I'll just keep the handicap tags for now. I can always fake being handicap if I get the "Look" . But here is a case of shouldn't they know she passed? I had to go get a death certificate; The SS office never missed a beat when it came time to quit sending her check. Seems the technology in that department is still lacking. Am I going to tell them? Not till I can afford switching the registrations. Seems there are still loopholes in the system to be refined. I talked to a fellow trucker today who swears up and down he will never have anything to do with computers. I had to reflect on that statement as I have 15 years plus computer experience mostly self taught and I contemplated all the things I have learned in that time. I had to wonder what it must be like to be in his shoes not even knowing the basics like turning on a computer or the ability to send and receive emails, photos plus the many office functions like word, excel and many other used daily now a days in business. Here is a guy who might as well live in a cave and be def/mute at the same time. Imagine all the money he must waste so that someone else who has "computer skills" can dictate information to him, Not to mention the lines he must endure just to do simple things like banking or ordering products by phone or that he now waits in line at some store behind more like minded idiots of his group do and pay whatever amount is wanted for a given product because they don't know any better. My father was the same way and as I was learning it was a constant battle with him to justify the time I spent on a computer. I'm glad I did while he was on this earth. He finally realized before his last days that maybe it wasn't such a bad thing. As a kid I was able to help his business be more productive thus gaining more profit. As a 20 something then , I was helping my father do better at his business. He used to cuss me when I was right. When we got our first official "Cell phone" in the late 80s I believe, He was just amazed that we could drive down the road and talk to his friends. This thing was a dinosaur compared to today’s phones. It came in the big bowling bag and the receiver was similar in size to the home rotary we had. This whole thing probably weighted 20 lbs or more consisting of mostly battery to power the goofy thing. I wish now I had saved it. It would truly show how far technology has come in a few short years. I do hope that truck driver decides to embrace technology at some point because while it may have some shortcoming's it does make up for it in making life just a bit less time consuming in the short time we are on this earth.
